2024 AN AMAZING YEAR FOR ITALIAN MACHINE TOOL EXPORTS TO INDIA

Italian Machine Tool Industry Strengthens Ties with India

India is one of the most interesting export areas for the technologies offered by the Italian machine tool manufacturing industry, represented by UCIMU-SISTEMI PER PRODURRE, the Association of Italian machine tool, robots, automation systems and ancillary products manufacturers.

According to the latest surveys processed by UCIMU Economic Studies Department, regarding the first nine months of 2024, India is the fourth largest destination area for the Made in Italy of the sector. In the period January-September 2024, sales of Made in Italy to India increased by 80% reaching a value of 141 million euro.

In this framework, IMTEX plays a very important role for Italian companies, for which this exhibition is the first and primary marketing tool, especially in distant areas and countries. At a trade show as lively and vibrant as IMTEX, companies have a chance to meet not only customers but also partners with whom to define collaborations and activities of common interest.

The Italian exhibitors’ collective organised in cooperation with ICE-Italian Trade Agency consists of 12 companies, which have booked the entire space made available by the organisers for the delegation coming from Italy.

After all, UCIMU has created some initiatives specifically dedicated to supporting the promotion of the Italian offering in India and the internationalisation of its member companies in this area, which is so rich in development opportunities. This is the case of the PIATTAFORMA INDIA project, which aims to be a real hub, capable of providing assistance and advice to Italian companies interested in operating in the area. Therefore, “Piattaforma India” is assisted by an Indian business manager, Mr Nilesh Joshi, who acts as a facilitator directly on site based at IICCI’s Mumbai office. Mr Nilesh supports UCIMU and AMAPLAST Associations in India and their member companies providing assistance to them for their presence in the Indian market, and carrying out networking, marketing, communication and promotion activities. Mr Nilesh Joshi will be present at UCIMU booth at IMTEX 2025 (23-29/01/2025), Hall 2B, stand A128F.

In addition to this, ITC- Italian Technology Center (https://www.itc-india.in/) is a network agreement among a group of currently six Italian manufacturers, involved in machine tool sector, that want to strengthen their presence in India and promote their visibility in the market through promotional and marketing initiatives. Since 2012 ITC has been promoting the ITC mark and the brands of member companies, supporting their internationalisation in India thanks to the local ITC team, based in Pune, Bangalore and Delhi. The purpose of ITC activities is to increase the opportunities of collaborations between ITC Members and Indian companies, increasing mutual trust especially in the sector of automotive, infrastructure, railways, defence, energy and mechanics in general. ITC will exhibit at IMTEX 2025 in Hall 2B stand A129, one location where you can get to know the six ITC companies.

Nowadays Italy and India have increasingly strong and wide-ranging economic relations, showing a strong focus on collaborations in the economic, cultural, scientific and technological fields. Italian technological advanced machines and systems in India contribute to the sustainable and competitive growth of Indian manufacturing industry.

Considering the performance of Italian manufacturers on the foreign market in 2024, according to the preliminary data of UCIMU Economic Studies, the Italian exports of machine tools grew by 6,3% versus 2023, to about 4,5 billion euro, new record value never achieved before. Nevertheless the year 2024 is closing with a considerable fall of the other economic indicators, a weak trend reversal is expected in 2025, thanks to the positive performance of exports as well as to the moderate recovery of deliveries by Italian manufacturers.

UCIMU-SISTEMI PER PRODURRE (www.ucimu.it/en) is the Italian machine tool, robots, automation systems and ancillary products (NC, tools, components, accessories) manufacturers’ association.

The official representative of the sector, UCIMU-SISTEMI PER PRODURRE has today over two hundred associate member companies, which account for over 70% of the Made in Italy of the sector.
