Industry Leaders at FICCI India Steel 2023 Urge Govt to Reduce Dependence on Foreign Raw Materials & Tech
Over 12,000 visitors and 8000 B2B meetings mark the culmination of India Steel 2023
India Steel 2023 witnessed a significant increase in visitors, B2B meetings, and participating countries compared to 2019.
Mumbai, April 22, 2023 – The three-day India Steel 2023 conference and exhibition, organized by the Ministry of Steel, & Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Govt of India, and FICCI concluded with over 12,000 visitors, 8,300 B2B meetings, and 130 G2B meetings, marking a substantial improvement over the 2019 edition.
Growing Industry Engagement: A Platform for Dialogue and Collaboration
This year’s event saw 80 speakers, including steel industry leaders, experts, and stakeholders, discuss key challenges and opportunities for the sector, such as policy frameworks, circular economy, by-product utilization, and increasing steel usage. Compared to 2019, this year’s conference boasted a greater number of participating countries (20) and exhibitors (240).
Mr. Sanjay Roy, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Steel, emphasized the need for innovation to achieve national steel policy goals and meet COP26 commitments, “We have to remember that it should not only be about meeting COP26 or other goals; we have to grow greener to give a better climate to our future generations.”
Industry leaders urged the government and the Ministry of Steel to take action toward reducing dependence on other countries for raw materials and technology.
Mr. Subhrakant Panda, President, FICCI, highlighted the importance of enhancing coking coal production to meet future demand, “We need to take urgent steps for enhancing coking coal production by increasing the capacities of existing mines as well as the operationalisation of new mines for coking coal production.”
The conference and exhibition provided attendees with opportunities to engage with industry leaders and explore collaboration prospects in the evolving Indian steel landscape.
The event showcased advanced technologies, products, and solutions from leading private sector organizations such as Tata Steel, JSW Steel, Jindal Steel & Power, AM/NS India, Mahindra & Mahindra, Welspun Corp, and L&T.
Mr. Abhijeet Narendra, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Steel, stressed on the importance of resource conservation and sustainable solutions, “The need is to march towards a zero-emission regime through sustainable solutions; decarbonization would be the key driver to take the sector forward.”
Ms. Ruchika Chaudhry Govil, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Steel, called for more industry research on New Age steel production, saying, “Innovation and research will play a bigger role; more research is expected from the industry concerning the production of New Age steel.“
